Bilateral Oxford partial knee replacement
‘6 months ago, I had Bilateral Oxford partial knee replacement, freeing me from knee pain that was so bad that sometimes I felt I could only crawl.
I have been so impressed by how well organised my entire experience has been, not only the superior medical treatment by Dr. Thomas Boerger, but also the support from the nursing team, including Tanya his chief nurse. I also have to mention that Dr Thomas Boerger has an amazing patient care co-ordinator, Louise. She was really, really helpful making all the arrangements, and she took care of all the paperwork too, including my insurance claim.
Chris, a medical doctor and surgeon, relocated to the south of Spain with his wife, from Germany. He was recommended to book a consultation with Dr. Thomas Boerger for the severe pain he had in both knees, which was restricting his movement and affecting his quality of life.
‘I have had a great result,’ explains Chris. ‘After the successful surgery, I was only using the crutches for less than a week. I am now walk pain free and I have returned to exercise!
I have been really impressed for all aspects of my experience, including all the nursing and patient care support, from consultation to post-operative follow-up.
I knew immediately when meeting Dr Thomas Boerger, that I could trust him. His diagnosis was spot on and confirmed by x-rays.
Background
It was during the last year that my knees really deteriorated. I could no longer jog, and even walking was really getting too painful. I waited to see if things would get better with rest but by last summer it was terrible, and my quality of life had really declined.
Procedure
I booked my procedure with Dr. Thomas Boerger at HC Marbella. As a retired surgeon I am familiar with medical procedures, but it was still very reassuring that before the operation Dr Boerger came to see me to clarify details of the bilateral partial knee replacement once again.
HC Marbella is a very professional hospital, with great service and an excellent approach to clients.
After the operation I spent two nights at HC Marbella and was met again by Dr. Thomas Boerger who discussed with me my post-operative recovery including use of crutches.
Aftercare
As I have said, I have had a great result! I followed Dr. Boerger’s advice to just maintain mobility and only very gentle exercise. Some physios recommend quite intense programmes for knee surgery patients, but Dr. Boerger believes this just aggravates the knees, creating inflammation. Instead, he recommends very short, regular walks. This worked so well!
I found I was free of crutches after less than a week. The secret was to keep walking just a little.
Since I live in Salobreña, quite a distance from MC Marbella, Dr. Thomas Boerger agreed to an initial post operative consultation via video. Since I am a qualified surgeon he felt comfortable – as it was two doctors talking to each other.
Four weeks post-operation, I returned to see Dr Boerger face-to-face at HC Marbella, and he was very happy with my progress.
At the time of this interview, I have just had my final consultation and I can walk with no pain, and I can do exercise. I no longer go jogging, but I enjoy walking, cycling, and using the rowing machine.
I really can recommend Dr Boerger! I am very grateful to have experienced this superior level of healthcare and service. I cannot image I could have had anything better!
